Charity/Community

As is the case with other Roller Derby leagues you’ll find throughout the nation (especially WFTDA leagues), Bangor Roller Derby is absolutely committed to not only supporting local charities, but becoming a force of community involvement.

Sure, we like to skate, smash into each other, and we love our team, but Derby is about much more than that, and our real mission is to become a positive, local showcase for the empowerment of women everywhere. Our Derby Girls like to win, but they really win by supporting and enriching the Bangor area at large, and by demonstrating their community spirit through volunteering and fund-raising.

The Bangor Roller Derby girls volunteer a minimum of two hours per month (it’s in our by-laws), but few of them stop there. Before we were even three months in, we set up our Heaven & Hell fundraiser (raising money toward our $350 goal to donate Halloween costumes), had girls helping out Ronald McDonald House, will be helping out with Z107.3′s Turkey Drive, and much, much more.

A lot of sports teams do their part for charity and their community, but it is an essential component of Derby life.
